The Star of the Show: The GoMe Cutter

The GoMe cutter is lightweight and portable, making it a perfect option for quilters on the go or those new to AccuQuilt. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Unfold the Cutter:

    • Place your fingers on the two notches on either side of the cutter.

    • Gently pull outward to open the arms until they lay flat.

  2. Check the Handle:

    • The handle is ergonomically designed for easy use. Even if you’re left-handed (like me), you’ll find it simple to operate.

  3. Explore the Dust Cover:

    • The GoMe comes with a dust cover to keep it clean and ready for your next project.

Why You’ll Love the GoMe’s Starter Dies

The included dies are perfect for quick, accurate cuts that will save you hours compared to rotary cutting. Here’s what you can make:

  • Half Square Triangle Die: Ideal for creating the popular Yankee Puzzle block.

  • Quarter Square Triangle Die: A must-have for the Turnstile block, one of my all-time favorites!

With these two dies, you’re set to start small, manageable weekend projects that will help you master the GoMe while completing stunning quilt blocks.

Quick Tip: Using the Cutting Mat

Remember, the AccuQuilt cutting system doesn’t work without the cutting mat. This 6” x 6” mat is included in the box, so you can start cutting right away. Place the fabric and die between the mat and the cutter for precise shapes every time.

AccuQuilt can help you minimize those bad rotary cutter days.

Quilting can be a joy, but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re staring at your AccuQuilt cutter, unsure of how to transform those beautiful dies into completed quilt blocks. If you’ve ever felt stuck or frustrated about where to start, you’re not alone. Today, I’m here to guide you through cutting quilt blocks using the 6-inch Mix and Match Qube set—a quick, efficient method that’s perfect for weekend-friendly quilting projects.

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll feel confident in your ability to cut and prep fabric for two blocks, saving time, reducing waste, and setting yourself up for a smooth quilting experience. Let’s dive in!

Why the 6-Inch Mix and Match Qube Set for AccuQuilt projects & ideas?

The 6-inch Mix and Match Qube set is a versatile and beginner-friendly tool that simplifies cutting quilt block shapes. Whether you’re making a classic four-patch or more intricate designs, this die set helps you cut precise shapes every time. Plus, with the AccuQuilt system, you can cut up to six layers of fabric at once, saving valuable time.

Step #1 - Prep Your Fabric

  • Sub-Cut Strips: Before you begin, sub-cut your fabric into manageable strips that fit the die. This ensures that your fabric is ready for cutting and minimizes waste.

  • Starch Your Fabric: Lightly starch your fabric strips for stability, making them easier to handle during the cutting process.

Step #2 - Check the Lengthwise Grain

  • To maintain the accuracy of your cuts, always align the lengthwise grain of the fabric with the cutter.

    • Pro Tip: Find the lengthwise grain by gently tugging on the fabric—this is the direction with the least stretch. For easy alignment, hold the lengthwise grain toward your belly while prepping.

"The fabric should be tight and then place it on the die with the label to towards you belly." – Pam Heller, AccuQuilt

Step #3 - Layer and Fan Fold

  • Fan Fold Your Fabric: Layer your fabric on the die using a fan fold technique. This means folding your fabric back and forth over the die, ensuring each layer just barely covers the dark gray shape on the die.

  • Why Fan Fold? This method prevents directional errors and ensures that your shapes are cut with alternating right and wrong sides, making assembly easier later.

Step #4 - Place the Cutting Mat

  • Don’t Skip the Mat! Place the cutting mat over the die. The mat is essential for the cutting process—without it, the fabric won’t cut properly.

Step #5 - Run Through the Cutter

  • Align your die sandwich (fabric, die, and mat) with the cutter and feed it in with the lengthwise grain facing the machine.

  • Real-Time Speed: The cutter works quickly—your shapes will be ready in seconds!

Step #6 - Remove Static & Reveal Your Cuts

  • After the die goes through the cutter, gently rub the top of the mat to remove static. This helps keep your cut shapes in place as you lift the mat.

  • Carefully peel back the mat to reveal your perfectly cut shapes with minimal fabric waste.

Why This Method Works

Using the AccuQuilt system and fan folding fabric ensures:

  1. Precision: Each shape is cut exactly to size.

  2. Efficiency: Cut up to six layers of fabric in one go.

  3. Minimal Waste: Careful alignment reduces fabric scraps.
